This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We come directly from the 'boogie down' Bronx, NY! My gifted and talented kindergarten class is comprised of children who come to school each morning, ready to learn and engage in our daily activities. Besides our core academic subjects, a large part of the social aspects of kindergarten, is that children learn about who they are, about their home, their neighborhood, and their school community. My students are special because they have grown to understand that they and their peers are the same, but also different in many ways. This understanding has allowed us to create and inclusive, and safe environment for learning where confidence and respect is encouraged. They are special, because even at such a young age, they are working collaboratively, helping one another, accepting constructive criticism, and LEARNING all at the same time. With your help, we are on our way to becoming the leaders of tomorrow!

My Project

We recently began our author study unit on Mo-Willems. The first Mo Willems book I read to the students was, 'We Are in a Book.' They laughed throughout the entire story. Since then, they can't get enough of this book. I've had to read it everyday since. I understand that reading can sometimes feel like a chore to children who are learning how to read. Any opportunity that they can experience in enjoying a book, is just one step in helping them to understand that books can be magical and exciting. I'm asking for multiple copies of this book, so that I may gift it to them during the holiday season. In addition, I'm also asking for Mo Willems Elephant and Piggie Collection of books, to enjoy in our classroom.
