Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Bright eyes and grinning faces greet me each morning, eager to enter our classroom each day. Occasionally, sad, teary, or even angry eyes greet me as well. All students patiently wait their turn to give me a smile, hug, fist bump, high five or even to share whatever has them feeling blue.

I have the pleasure of teaching 44 amazing and unique individuals, many of who are English Language Learners and/or economically disadvantaged, and some who are gifted and talented.

They enter the classroom each day anticipating the day's activities. Even though some students come in with worries, they are soon actively engaged, and, if only for a few hours, worry-free.

I have high expectations for my students, and they strive to meet those expectations daily. My goal is to encourage them to be the best fourth-graders and lifelong learners they can possibly be. They are the reason I enjoy teaching.

My Project

Literacy is the key to success, and I promote literacy daily in my classroom. Since my love of books and reading is evident, my students show the same desire and enthusiasm. High-interest picture books and chapter books to be used as read alouds would not only enhance my student's love of reading but would also help their comprehension and social skills. My students will be more cognizant of the diversity that exists in the world and how they respond to it.

Many of my students are already two to three grade levels behind in reading, so having additional highly recommended, high-interest reading material will allow them to practice reading in an engaging manner while also increasing vocabulary and comprehension.

The additional materials will further enhance instruction by providing hands-on methods of communicating, such as by creating foldable or submitting written responses. Writing is often challenging for fourth graders. Using the dry-erase clipboards and dry erase pockets offers a fun alternative to writing on paper and in notebooks and can be used during both whole-group and small-group instruction, as well as workstations.
