My Students

The students in the fourth grade are all unique. I have had the pleasure of teaching these students since they were in third grade. Many of the students come from low-income homes. Many students receive free lunch and free breakfast each day.

All of them are excited to enter the classroom each day because I provide great, unique and individualized learning opportunities in my classroom.

They have their own personalities and really want to thrive throughout the school year. Sometimes, students must take assessments to make sure they are retaining the material that I have taught them throughout whole and small group instruction in reading and writing. To explore reading, they need books that are relevant to them! When students can independently pick the book they want, not just based on level, they enjoy reading. They aren’t forced to take a book.

Many students in the grade have specific learning needs. The students can work in solitude without distractions. This will also allow the students to get up out of their seats. My students are in the general education setting and ICT However, I teach the whole fourth. There are students that have specific learning disabilities.

My Project

These books would make a difference within my students' learning for many different reasons. My students do not have access to supplementary books that they can use for research and for gallery walks in lessons. By having many books related to the subject at hand, the students can preview them and activate prior knowledge of the subject.

The students will be able to flip through the pages, instead of using computers and trying to find the information.

They can hold the learning in their hands and reference the material at any time, as opposed to putting the computers away, waiting for them to warm up and log in.

This eliminates wasted time and the children can have these books to reference throughout the entire module. It also helps that I would have a copy of the books because then, I can plan accordingly and make notes within my book as well; notes to stop and question or highlight important details that the students may glaze over.
