This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges on a daily basis both inside and outside of the classroom. Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households. They receive free breakfast and lunch as a Title I school. These are some of the factors that may prevent/hinder their chances of getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences that many of us see as "typical".
As kindergarteners, my students are eager to adjust to a larger social group, understand the world in which they live, and to develop good habits and attitudes towards themselves and others and I am here to give them that opportunity!
My Project
Read-aloud time is the time my students look forward to each day. This is a meaningful and enriching experience for these young minds, as they are given the opportunity to engage in text and illustrations that spark their enthusiasm to learn.
This is the first school experience for so many of these energetic little ones who are eager to build a foundation for learning.
By donating to this project, you will have a part in helping students understand how to interact with their peers, how to act as a student and to get rid of their first day/beginning of a new school year jitters.
