Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am lucky enough to work with incredibly intelligent, witty, and resilient teenagers from all over the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. My students attend six different high schools within a large high school campus in the Bronx. Unfortunately, over the past few years, student library usage had decreased.

As the new campus librarian for the 4,300+ students who share the building, my goal is to change that!

In my last school, I worked with colleagues and students to make our school library one of the most popular and welcoming spaces in the building. I'm eager to build my new-to-me campus library into a similar space, where students are excited to find out what's new, check out culturally relevant and diverse books, learn about the world around them, spend time with peers, and explore their creativity.

So far, so good!

My Project

I have worked hard all year long to create a library where students want to read more and more! Students are attracted to the new shiny covers, the ever-changing displays, and the buzz they build around different books as they talk to one another. However, by this point in the year, I have reached the end of my schools' book budget even though students come to me with more ideas of books that they want to read.

Help support student literacy by placing these books into their hands and encouraging their desire to read!

These are the titles that students have specifically asked for over and over. Filling these book requests will help sustain my students as avid readers!
