My Students

My first grade class has 27 students who are excited about learning and work so hard every day. We are a Title I school, and have many students who receive free and reduced lunch. We also are located in an area with many ELL students who speak Arabic in the home. Some of my students have only been in the country for a year or less and are still so motivated and hard working!

These students inspire me every day and I want to do everything in my power to inspire them as well.

Having a classroom where they feel comfortable to work, learn, and be themselves is my biggest desire for these students. I want continue to give them a classroom that they are proud to be a part of, and where they will grow every day.

My Project

I am lucky enough to have a leveled library in my classroom, where I can let students know the level that they read at and they can find books that are a good fit. However, I spent some time teaching second grade, so many of my books are too difficult for many of my first grade students.

New phonics readers and texts that will draw students in and make them want to read would be the best possible addition to my classroom library.

Many of the titles and authors that I chose, my students are already familiar with and excited by, while others I know will draw them in and engage them as they read. These new titles added to our classroom library will help my students to continue to learn as they add new strategies to their knowledge bank. These will help to prepare my first graders for second grade and the years to come!
