Books, Books, and More Books

My students need a variety of books to chose from that are both high level and interesting to them. Having multiple copies of the same book will help to foster group reading and teamwork.

My Students

"There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book." - F. Serafini

I want my students to fall in love with reading.

At the beginning of each year, I start the by asking my students if they enjoy reading. Most times their answer is usually, "No." I believe this is because they have not found the right books. In order to find the right books, they need access to a large variety of books.

Our current classroom library is filled with outdated books or books that are falling apart. Our students want to read books that are at their level, books that are about subjects they can relate to, books that excite them...with these books they will write responses, do projects, hold discussions, and share with others.

With your generous donation, you will help students with their comprehension, their vocabulary, their grammar, and so much more. You will open up the world of endless possibilities to our students. You will help them fall in LOVE with reading. You will help them experience the world like they've never experienced before, and you will help them become successful.

My Project

What is that?" is a question I often hear in my classroom. My students don't have the schema needed to build understanding in reading. For many, they have never traveled outside of their own neighborhoods, much less outside of our glorious state. They have never seen snow, they have never experienced an amusement park, or hopped a airplane for a fun family vacation.

My students are eager to experience the world and the best way to do this is reading.

I try my best to give them my experiences, we do research via the internet, but there's something about reading a book and getting sucked into it that makes the students come alive. When they read the books and form their own understanding, they make better connections to the things they see on the internet or to the descriptions I give. I want them to fall in love with reading and to be eager to experience the world. We are a Title I school and there are many students who come from low income/high poverty backgrounds. They come from various cultures with English as a second language. But despite their everyday challenges our students have the biggest hearts and are eager to learn. I love seeing them light up with excitement.
