My Students

My students are from a lower socio-economic area that is 100% free lunch. My class specifically is all English language learners who are making great gains in developing their vocabulary and their reading and writing. They need access to a large amount of books and literature to become fluent readers who are succeeding at grade-level.

My students are so enthusiastic about learning and devour books in our classroom library.

They love to learn! They love to read but sometimes can't access quality literature.

While we have a classroom library, students' reading choices are so varied and they are with me for an entire year. I would like to eventually provide them thousands of titles to choose!

My Project

The number one difference between students who read well or not is their access to quality books and literature. If students have a wide selection of books and read every day, their reading ability goes up. And while it sounds like a simple remediation, books can be expensive. My students don't have many books at home and often don't have time to go to their local library. My classroom is their only access to literature and I want to provide them with so many great options!

My students LOVE books!

They get so excited when they presented with a wide variety of reading material and they love to go book shopping every day and fill their reading basket with books to enjoy. They get so excited to share with me what they are reading and they often recommend books to other friends and students.
