This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach at a disciplinary alternative campus where every student is considered at-risk. Our school serves as a critical intervention point, aiming to redirect students' paths and broaden their perspectives. I love my students' determination and their curiosity. They face significant obstacles but are eager to engage and grow.

Our goal is to provide them with tools that both challenge and inspire.

Censorship in literature can stifle the very critical thinking and empathy we strive to develop in our students. Each book in our library has been carefully selected to introduce complex themes, foster empathy, and encourage critical thinking. By exploring these books, students can gain insights into diverse human exoeriences and societal structures.

This library will not only enhance their reading skills but also empower them to become thoughtful, informed, and compassionate citizens. It's more than just about improving literacy; its abut nurturing their ability to analyze, question, and advocate for themselves and others in all aspects of life.
