My Students
My Students are going to college. I teach in the heart of the Bronx, New York. My students come from all over the Bronx, from many different neighborhoods. They want to learn and are eager to learn. They are excited about their future!
Although growing up in poor and underserved neighborboods my students understand the importance of their education.
Many of my students will be the first in their families to attend and graduate college. They will be breaking cycles of poverty for their generations and also helping heir communities.
My Project
My students currently have limited access to books that they can select that they will see themselves in the characters and plots. Getting them excited about reading begins with non-fiction books that they can easily relate to. Reading is a crucial factor in student achievement. Getting them excited about reading begins with materials that they find interesting.
These books will greatly benefit my students in that they will be able to read books that they feel are relevant to their lives and their struggles.
Many of my students will be the first ones in their families to attend and graduate college and they need a the foundation that comes from enjoying reading.
