My Project
Everyone knows that books open the doors to the world and help children gain both vocabulary and background knowledge. Families in our low-income community often have few to no books at home, which negatively affects students' literacy skills. So, over many years, I have built a very large classroom library, which my students always appreciate and borrow from every week.
Every year, there are some books that don't get returned by the end of the year, but last year I lost over 13 books, most of them hardcovers.
The personal cost of replacing all those books is just too much on top of all the classroom and art supplies I buy every year.
In addition, I award students prize books every month when they complete 100% of their daily reading logs, and I gift them a new book for their birthdays. I used to be able to get masses of books for low cost at Scholastic's warehouse sales, but ever since COVID, they no longer hold those sales.
Your support will mean I can replace critical reading material for our class library, including many titles that complete a particular series and some very popular titles that students often ask for. Moreoever, your donation will help me keep a good stock of prize books this year that will appeal to a range of reading levels and interests.
