Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work for a Title I school where 100% of my students receive a free breakfast and free lunch. My students come from low-income families, poor neighborhoods, and difficult hardships. My students are English Language Learners who are eager, curious, and at times unsure of their ability. My school's focus is to make sure students are college ready and college bound. I want my students to have access to a calm classroom environment. Many of my students live in small apartments or homeless shelters and my classroom is definitely a safe haven for them. I want my classroom to continue to be a ​joyful and loving place for my students!

My Project

Do you remember the moment that you fell in love with reading?

My first-grade​ students are eager to learn how to read and get their hands on a great book with the characters they love.

However, they have a very limited number of books at home. Therefore, it is very important to have an array of books for them to access in my classroom. A classroom library will help foster their love of reading.

Many labels are attached to many of my students: English Language Learner, low socioeconomic income, struggling student. Yet, when they walk into my classroom all of those labels fade and one remains: they are all readers. Buying books for our classroom is so much more than just buying another classroom supply.

It's giving students the chance to grow as readers!
