Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class consists of 18 students with diverse needs and interests. I have 9 students that are ESOL learners, English as a Second Language, 3 students are usually within the resource room setting, but have the pleasure of joining us as a class for science and social studies. 90% of my students are Hispanic-American. We are currently a Title 1 school. We also have some students that get free and reduced lunches. Yup, we have quite a diverse learning group!

My students this year have a passion for science; I guess that's a reflection of me!

As a professional, I want to make sure I am challenging each group of students and providing them with literature that's captivating, especially when it comes to science!

I also want my students to have a positive growth mindset! I want to provide my students with more than just passing state standardized assessments; but a passion, a love, and an admiration for literature!!!

My Project

Having access to such books in our classroom will help increase my student's desire for reading within science, since some of these books are linked to science. Not only will this impact their reading within science, but across the board.

Setting a positive mindset is essential!

As students, enter the third grade, things become very crucial and teaching them to have a positive mindset through literature, as well as through modeling, will impact the way they think and set goals for themselves.

Therefore, all books will be used to increase the students' love for literature and self-motivation throughout the school year.
