This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have an outstanding school in a large urban area. The teachers here work tirelessly to bring engaging, fun activities to enhance our curriculum. Because of the numerous budget cuts, we have had to seek funding for the "extras" that the kids absolutely love.
Our students rock!
Even though we have over 1,000 elementary students, our school has a "family" feeling to it. The staff is great and works very hard to encourage the students to become successful members of society. Many of the students come from homes where many of their basic needs aren't met. We strive to give them the love and confidence they need to survive. This is a difficult world, but we know that with enough help, love, and guidance; they will have a bright future.
My Project
My students are a wonderful mix of diverse learners and general education students! Over the years I have found that the diverse learners struggle to read at times, but when the material is funny, they are continually engaged.
The students love when they get a brand new book to read!
The diverse learners will be teamed up with general education students, as they always are, but when the students understand the elements of literature, for example, plot, characterization, foreshadowing, point of view, rising and falling action, climax, then they can go into the first grade students and help them learn one of these elements that they will be confident about it because we will make sure that all students get a chance to share what they know. No student will be left behind!
