Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some of my students eventually move on to some of the best performing arts high schools in Manhattan. My singers live in New York City and learn to read, sing and appreciate music. They're students who crave a safe, musical environment to thrive!

These young musicians' faces beam when they have music class, as many come from neighborhood public housing without a lot of opportunities for private music lessons.

My students work diligently to increase their musical aptitudes. I see the process year after year. They're truly increasing their musicality.

My Project

Many of my students don't know basic repertoire of American culture like "America, the Beautiful" or "Carnival of the Animals."

This year I would like to include a singing story each day as a warmup activity, as opposed to teaching with song and puppets only.

As we do this each and every music class, students will start to develop predictive skills based on what we have covered and what we will cover.

In our musical unit in the Spring, I would like for the students to alternate classic musical movies from year to year. Certain classics are essential to learning!
