Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I asked some amazing students for some book recommendations and here's their list! They were all SO excited when I asked them to write me a list of up to 10 books that they'd like for me to purchase for the library. There are also several titles that are part of incomplete series. It's always a fun time when the boxes arrive and the kids get to see the new books arrive.

Additionally, I have 20 students who have joined Reading Decathlon, a district-wide reading competition.

We aren't allowed to purchase snacks with school funds, but the kids would love to have some tasty and fun snacks to choose from during our weekly meetings. These students are reading and discussing and quizzing each other every Friday lunch, and it would be lovely to have some additional incentives to joining us.

(Last year was our first year competing in Reading Decathlon, and we WON! The kids were so excited and happy with one another. One parent told me her child never wins anything, and it was so wonderful as a parent to see her child get 1st place. Students who give up their lunch once a week to visit the library and be part of a reading club, are certainly special children indeed).
