Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many students in our school qualify and enter our school through the Head Start Program, which is available for children who are from families with incomes below the poverty guidelines, children from homeless families, and/or families receiving public assistance. Some of the students in my classes suffer from attention deficit disorder and are ESL students (English as a Second Language) and/or have other types of special needs. Regardless of their challenges, though, the majority of the students are very determined and eager to succeed. In spite of their personal experiences, most of my students are very active, enthusiastic learners who possess a thirst for knowledge.

My goal for this project is for them to gain or grow their love of reading while enhancing their literacy skills.

Each of the students has read one of the books in these series and I am hoping to provide them with more books that peak their interest. By getting them interested in reading they will be able to read better and better over time. Reading is what each of these students needs to take them to another place in their mind.The students have assignments to read independent books. Recently I struggled to find them books because our school library is currently in the process of being reassembled. We depend on the classroom libraries for our students to get books to read.
