My Students

I have the joy of working as the librarian at a school that only works with students ages three to twenty-one with severe/profound intellectual disabilities. Many of the students also have other disabilities including vision and other physical challenges. I work with all 145 students.

The motto at our school is "Those You Think Cannot... Can!" and that is something that the students show us every day.

They are some of the most amazing students that you will ever meet.

My Project

I work with students that have severe and profound disabilities. Even so they love to have stories read to them. I would love for my teachers to read to their students every day.

To encourage this, I am going to create a reading challenge for next year.

There are four categories in the South Carolina Book Awards: Picture Books, Children's Books, Junior Books, and Young Adult Books. Whichever classroom reads the most books off of these four lists will win a pizza party from the library.

All of the books listed are on the 2020-202 South Carolina Book Awards list. The books being requested for this project are on the picture book and children's book lists.
