My Students

Our school is in Cypress Hill, Brooklyn, NY. It is a brand-new STEM focused school with a lot of potential. The school includes students from 3K to kindergarten, and it is a melting pot of children from all around the world.

Our school is in a high-poverty area, and about 95% of the students in the school receive free lunch.

There are 15 energetic three and four-year-old children in my class but there are not a lot of funds to enrich these students' education because of the budget cuts. Although our families give us support, they can't always help out financially.

My Project

I am requesting a large selection of books about trees for my PreKindergarten class. This year we started using Creative Curriculum and the second unit in the curriculum is a study of trees. The set came with a small set of books but there are so many wonderful books for young children to read to help them learn about trees.

We hope that this study will help our children further explore and appreciate nature.

My class will be observing and comparing trees to learn about what lives in them, what they’re made from, and who cares for them. As we study trees, we will use literacy, math, and the arts to explore the topic in depth. The children will learn important social studies and scientific concepts through firsthand investigations.
