My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds and low-income communities, yet they are united in their pursuit of academic excellence. This is predominantly my school's demographic. Our school is nestled in the South Ward of Newark. This area is limited to classroom supplies and technology items.

Our students are eager and very energetic, however; at this time distractions are known to happen.

I want to make sure that providing them with these things improves paying attention and working together.

Our students are eager and very energetic, however; at this age, distractions are known to happen. I want to make sure that providing them with these things limits these issues.

They will not feel disconnected from the classroom learning and this will help to keep them engaged and on task. I believe that providing both students and parents with resources will help keep them calm and focus as well. I'm hoping that providing each child with these simple individual items will help keep their attention.

My second-grade class will be so lucky and thankful!

My Project

Being able to provide books from African American Authors and books about Diversity will help open my students minds to read books about Diversity. I will be able to share these books with the students and they will talk to their families about it. They will be able to be engaged and share experiences together. These resources are intended to promote reading skills, improve comprehension, increase verbal participation, and enable students to be successful for learning! This will support the various students reading level and skills with fun engaging books. These resources will keep students and families engage with reading and connecting it to the classroom environment which will help to be an effective component to students learning. I want to make the books we read to be more meaningful with my students in the community in which we are.
