Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school building is old. Some of our supplies are outdated. We have bookcases that are falling apart. We do not have inside shelves for the bookcases. My books are placed on top of the bookcase because you can only fit one basket inside.

My students attend a Title one school.

My class is 12:1:1 and they are all boys. My students love spending time in their classroom library. They love reading. They are all eager to be the librarian. My students need new bookcases. Currently, our books have no place to be displayed. Students also have have difficulties accessing the books. My students will have more space to store their books with these new bookcases. They will easily be able to access the books in our library.

My Project

Imagine a bright lit classroom with new bookcases. A place where students have access to all the books in their library. Currently, I have limited space for my books. I am trying to make my room clutter free. Stacking the books on the top shelf takes up space. I do not have space for my centers because I am using the space for my library. The old bookcases we have do not have shelves so I have to fit one basket inside the bookcase. I am unable to fit and display all the genres of books for students to see. I want to be able to make a reading and writing center, but I am using the top shelf to display what I have now. I want to make centers in the room. We really new bookshelves.

Our school was the forgotten school after Hurricane Sandy.

We were the last school to be relocated. After being relocated for a few days we were saved by the generator. When we got power back in our building it was good to be back home. Students were overjoyed. I am building the classroom. I want to continue to build our classroom. I want my students to be proud of their classroom. To see that their room is filled with new things not. I want my students to see how much I care about their learning environment.
