My Students

My students LOVE to read! They enjoy reading many different types of books. I use read-aloud and picture books to reinforce learning and encourage them to read independently. While many of them love to read, they may have a hard time remembering parts of the story or comprehending what is going on.

I teach second grade in Nashville, Tennessee.

My school is a Title I, urban public school. Most of my students come from poverty or homes that are just making "ends" meet. This year I have a group of very sweet, energetic second graders. My parents are very supportive and are doing what they can to help their children be successful in school. This is only my second year in second grade. I am still working hard to collect engaging, high quality materials for my students to use to reinforce and practice the skills and standards they need extra practice with. They are high interest, engaging, and will meet the needs of my students at many ability levels.

My Project

I am requesting learning modules including one Research & Respond Comprehension Center, one Read with Me! School-To-Home Comprehension Kit, Exploring Fables, Folk Tales & Myths, and one Small-Group Nonfiction Comprehension Folders. These materials will help my students better their comprehension skills and strengthen their reading skills through the use of centers, games, short stories activities, and much more. The materials and activities are designed for students to be able to use them individually, with partners, or small groups. These activities are targeted for both review and enrich purposes to reach all of my students needs.

These materials can be used in a small group setting, as a center, or independent practice.

They are high interest, engaging, and will meet the needs of my students at many ability levels. These materials will allow students to explore and practice these skills using new texts and materials that will allow me to further assess understanding. My students will also have fun learning with these new centers and activities!
