Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our school we provide a period solely dedicated to Silent Sustained Reading, to help increase literacy development and build a common culture across all grade levels. Teachers are encouraged to take students to the library to get a book that will interest them or build a classroom library that's most readily available to the students. I have taken it upon myself to curate a selection of books that is more culturally relevant to my student's interests and experiences.

Graphic novels are the way of the future to encourage students to read and engage with books in a different manner!

My students continue to ask for more Spanish options, graphic novels, and books that are potentially more exciting. This builds a culture around reading that not only excites students but provide self-advocacy!
