This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach kindergarten in a Title 1, urban school setting with a paraprofessional in my classroom. As our school’s magnet theme is exploration and innovation, we are continuously creating and exploring new things and having fun! Our developmentally approach to teaching creates a learning environment where children are first and teaching is tailored to their needs. My students are highly curious explorers who love to learn through play. My students have a strong sense of community and enjoy working together and helping each other with activities and with problem solving. My students’ favorite part of the day is working with a partner or reading in partnerships!

My Project

Right now, we have just one book shelf in our classroom library. With the addition of the display bookshelf, my students will be able to choose a book quicker and more easily, as students can view the books that are available. I am planning on putting familiar mentor texts on display that we have read during snack and a story time. My students love to read, especially in partnerships, and this book nook with provide my students with a cozy spot to explore stories.

These book shelves will help our classroom library, and our brains, GROW!

More shelving means more BOOKS! I will include leveled texts, Read-at-Home books, and interest picks! My students will absolutely love this new area in our classroom and I am looking forward to sharing this updated library with them!
