My Students

Reading has become one of the greatest sources of happiness for so many of my students. They quickly and eagerly devour any novels I put on my shelf and constantly beg for read-alouds from the new novels I acquire.

This year I am continuing a book club that was started at the request of students.

The desire these students have to read new novels and discuss them within a community of readers will help develop so many skills for their future! Not only will they hone their ability to effectively communicate with their peers, they will develop more of an open-mind that will help them deal with others in the future. My students are precious, enthusiastic learners who love book club so they can come together and have meaningful discussions with fellow readers!

My Project

As an English teacher, I love to read with my students and have meaningful discussions about characters and situations. I feel that it is important to have open conversations in an environment where students feel that they are safe and can say what's on their mind without fear of criticism from their peers or me.

I will assign the novels to the students who are in this book club and they will have approximately one month to read the novel.

We will come together each month to discuss the novel as well as our thoughts and opinions on it. This will be a time of encouragement for one another as well as a time of development of themselves as they continue in their high school journey and future. This is a book club that is growing to include more students as we meet monthly. I want every student to learn to appreciate reading on their own and with a community of readers.
