My Project

We are thrilled to begin a new chapter in our Title I elementary school literacy journey. Our school was invited to participate in our district's competitive basketball league. While our students have experience with basic ball-handling skills, they know very little about playing the game of basketball. All our students are English as a New Language (ENL) learners. A few players have recently immigrated to the United States and do not speak or understand English. Some of the players have language acquisition or language processing challenges.

Basketball practice is going to boost their English language and physical literacy skills.

We need various books and learning materials to support the diverse needs of our student-athletes. Basketball-themed coloring and word search books will introduce concepts and vocabulary through fun and age-appropriate activities. The record book, skill development and strategy books, and coaching boards will break down concepts and give the athletes ideas about training during practices and at home between practices. Combining reading, playing, diagramming, and writing about basketball will boost the students' literacy skills and improve their gameplay. Thank you for helping us begin this new chapter in our basketball and literacy learning journey.
