My Students

My students are true bibliophiles: they are smitten with science reference books. From kindergardeners to middle-schoolers, the printed page still rules. Unfortunately, our school's science reference section is out-of-date for topics like climate change and biodiversity. It is time to update!

Above all else, my students crave two things: data and gorgeous pictures.

Bless their souls, my students are not choosy when it comes to paperback or hardback reference books.

The immediate goal of this project is to support a science reference library that has longevity, and will continue to thrill my pickiest students.

My Project

This project takes direct aim at the scourge of librarians everywhere: flopsy paperback book bindings. It's a fact that paperback or "turtleback" library book bindings only last a school year or two. Popular titles often last less time. Hardback book bindings, however, have a lasting shelf life and are well-worth their investment.

Our school district only has seven librarians, and no school in our district allocates a budget for library books.

Few civilians know that public school libraries depend wholly on donations. Thank goodness for projects like this!

This project provides our science students with an at-hand, up-to-date, hardback reference library that is brimming with full-color pictures and relevant data. Do we think this project is worthwhile? You bet your dust jackets we do!
