My Project

English class can be such an exciting adventure for middle school age students. However, approaching reading and new texts can be a bit overwhelming when it's not a part of your daily routine. Jazzy reading corners and incentives for reading begin to fade at secondary levels and I want to bring that excitement back!

Reading a book as a kid was an escape from reality and comfort when I most needed it.

I want to offer that experience to my students and spark new and existing interests that may have not fully blossomed. With all of the politics surrounding the education system, building a full classroom library would be a sign of hope in our small classroom. My students range from 7th grade honors to special needs with a range of interests in books from historical fiction to graphic novels and more! As a 6th year English Language Arts teacher, I've noticed students who say they don't read or hate it simply have not figured out their literary interests. Exploring different types of books help them gain a better understanding of what they like and an appreciation of a good book.
