Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am undertaking this book club project with low-income students who are struggling readers because I believe in the transformative power of reading. Many of these students face challenges in accessing engaging and appropriate reading materials, which can make it difficult to develop their literacy skills. By providing high-interest, low-level books, I aim to give them the opportunity to practice reading in a way that is both enjoyable and accessible.

For my book club project, I have included box sets to give students a variety of options allowing them to continue exploring stories with characters they connect with.

This also encourages them to build a deeper love for reading by offering them a series they can follow and enjoy. Additionally, I added two teacher books that will support me in addressing the unique needs of my students, particularly those with attention difficulties and reading differences. These resources will guide me in tailoring my approach, ensuring that every student gets the personalized support they need to succeed and thrive as readers.

I also want them to explore text features, like graphic novels, which are very popular with striving readers and can help make reading more accessible and engaging for them. By incorporating a variety of formats, I hope to foster excitement around reading and boost their confidence in their abilities.
