Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of amazing, curious, and hardworking general and special education students in first grade. About sixty percent of my students have a range of disabilities, some of which include learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disturbances, speech and language impairments, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Like any other class, my students' abilities and interests range across a wide spectrum.

All of my students require individual or small group attention.

Each day, I incorporate all of their learning styles, interests, and special education accommodations into our lessons. Some of my students prefer visual or auditory cues for learning, while some require a more kinesthetic or tactile approach. My students come into our classroom each day with a love of school and a desire to grow as a learner.

My Project

My students are avid readers. Each day, they come to our reading period ecstatic to dive into books! Each of my students tells me every day that their favorite part of the day is reading partnerships when they get to read a leveled text with a friend. The excitement on their faces when it's time for partnerships each day is the best!

We are requesting sets of books so that our students can participate in book clubs; this will allow them to participate in collaborative discussions about a text, ask questions, and build their overall comprehension while reading together!

Having access to multiple different leveled texts will be the perfect way to launch our book clubs.
