My Project

Kids reading has been and will always be important. Many children no longer have a natural love for reading. Technology has taken over and it can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how it is utilized.

My goal is for children to genuinely love reading again.

Having a set of chapter books in the classroom can open so many doors and bring waves of opportunities. Hatchet is one of my favorite childhood books. It is truly a classic and allows children to form a deeper understanding of survival skills, perseverance, and grit.

I would love to form a classroom book club where students can read the same book in class as well as at home. Homework and classwork can be given from this one book. Children will be able to express opinions through listening to their peers, develop critical thinking skills, and leading classroom discussions about the novel more than the teacher.

Book clubs open so many windows of learning, but it forms deeper understandings of literature through the eyes and minds of children.
