Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an amazing group of fifth graders. I taught them as fourth graders last year and am moving to fifth grade with the same group this year. Our school is in a vibrant neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY. The majority of my students speak Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese at home.

My kids are passionate, compassionate, curious, and creative.

It is always my priority to give them as many opportunities as possible that will cultivate their love for learning.

My Project

Throughout the school year, students develop as readers through book clubs. Students are typically grouped based on their reading level. They read the same book and discuss it as they go. My students LOVE book clubs because it gives them an outlet to share their thinking with classmates who are reading the same story.

The book sets I have requested will support our book club work with engaging texts; I am also requesting graphic novels and audio books for some of my students who benefit from multi-modal reading.
