My Students

My school is one of the most diverse campuses in the area. In a single classroom I might have a student with a parent who works at Apple, a student who has only been in the country a short while, a student who has recently become homeless, or a student that has two parents that work two to three jobs just to keep food on the table. What I love the most about these students is how they are so accepting and open with one another despite their differences.

My Project

The number one complaint about reading that I hear from students is that they are "forced" to do it. I want to provide novels for my students that maybe have pretty covers and catch their attention. I want them to pick up a book and love it, even if it doesn't meet the "standard" of literature.

My students need opportunities to choose a book to read if they are ever going to develop a love for reading.

All of the books I have chosen for this project are geared towards teen readers and address various issues that teenagers face in our modern world.

These books will provide my students with characters they can identify with, characters with new perspectives, and, hopefully, a new love and respect for reading.
