My Project

When students return from lunchtime or recess, it can be a hard transition back into classwork. I want to create a "Book Break" time in my classroom where students line up at the door, reach into a colorful box (without looking), and pull out an inspiring, positive book to read. Students can then settle onto our class rug or a comfortable seat on the floor, and read the book that was picked. The fun will be getting the chance to relax and transition back into class and read a book for ten minutes. These daily book breaks will improve reading literacy while also building our social-emotional learning as well! What a great way to transition back to class with an inspiring read!

Students will take book breaks with these empowering books!

Just like math, reading, writing, science, and history- social-emotional learning is an important part of education. My students want books that help them learn how to get along with others, learn about emotions, how to navigate friendships, respect diversity, be inclusive, and kind, overcome challenges and learn how to persevere through tough tasks.
