My Students

Our school uses the Reading Workshop model. I teach a mini lesson everyday followed by independent reading. While I am pulling small groups for instruction, my students are independently reading and applying what they have learned from their mini lesson with their own self selected books.

My students are thriving readers.

They love filling their book bins with a variety of genres and discovering new books. They are constantly using strategies to select "good fit" books and applying strategies from our mini lessons. If we have an assembly or change in schedule and reading workshop is canceled, my students are so disappointed.

My Project

Right now my students are using cardboard book bins to store their books. At least once a day somebody's books break through their bins and crash upon the floor. If we have plastic, more durable book bins then our workshop time will flow more seamlessly.

These books bins will not only hold the student's precious book selections, but they will also help protect them.

It will help keep our beloved books in better condition. It will help prevent my student's frustration when their bins break and books crash all over the floor.
