Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

First grade is one of the most critical periods in a child's education. A first grader will learn to be independent and follow the rules and routines established in the class. Organization is a necessity in a first-grade classroom in order for it to function properly. The students need to know that everything has a place, and they can independently locate and return each item to where it belongs. With over 30 students in a class this is a must!

Having book bins to organize the classroom library will enable students to develop autonomy by allowing them to independently locate and return the books they have chosen to read.

Each bin will be labeled with a name and picture of the books inside each bin. A picture is used with each label to aid the children who are unable to read yet. I am also asking for some pocket charts that the children can use during centers time. They will be sorting numbers into a "120 chart" and using the dividers to give them some private working space when needed or wanted. These items will help establish routines and help my class run smoothly.

The upcoming kindergarten class comes to first grade excited about learning. Every student wants to be the teacher's helper. When they are given responsibility, they are proud of their class and what they are learning. Having an organized classroom will allow the students to make the classroom their own and develop a sense of community over keeping the class orderly. An organized classroom is crucial for student learning.
