My Students

My students are amazing! Each new year and throughout, they inspire me and continue to help me realize why I joined the teaching profession!

With the added trials and obstacles posed by COVID-19, something that will continue to affect the world as a whole for a long while, my primary focus is, and always will be, to provide my students with a warm and welcoming classroom environment.

To look at my students and the ways in which they continue to show up every day in the face of extremely huge mental and emotional obstacles is inspiring, to say the least.

My Project

Prizes and incentives can be a strong motivating force if used in a discretionary and thoughtful manner.

One of the best ways for my students to become strong readers is for them to read in their spare time and our "Book Bingo" opportunity will help my students expand their vocabulary, increase their reading stamina, and most importantly, let them live many lives besides their own!

I want to encourage my students to read as much as possible this year, whether they already do or not, and I want to recognize their choice to read independently with prizes and incentives. The goal of our "Book Bingo" activity is to read five books and create a "bingo" on their book bingo card. Every five books read, along with the completion of small activities related to each book, will earn my students an entry for the grand prize. However, during the course of their readings and working towards a bingo, they will receive a small prize after each book is completed.

The two $25 Visa gift cards will be our "grand prizes"; one will be awarded each semester. The four Starbucks gift cards will be our 2nd and 3rd prizes for each semester (2 cards awarded per semester). The smaller prizes will be rewarded as my students complete each of their books and will, hopefully, encourage them to continue on.
