My Students

My sweet First grade students come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and home situations. Some live in poverty and are English Language Learners. They are kind, compassionate, energetic children who love learning. They learn best when they can sing, create, and work together to solve problems. I strive to make our classroom community feel like a family and provide them with creative and meaningful learning experiences. My students are special because they genuinely care for each other and want to see each other succeed.

My Project

Book bags will allow my students to take home books that we have read in their reading small groups. Without book bags, the likelihood of books being damaged or not returning to school is high. Small-group books are very expensive, so teachers are always at a crossroads trying to decide whether to send them home or not.

Book bags will ensure that my first graders are able to practice their reading skills at home.

They will protect our books and give students a bright, colorful reminder every time they see them that they are supposed to practice their reading each night with their families.
