Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My co-teachers and I teach a 3rd grade ICT/ENL class in a Title I-funded public school in New York City. Most of my students come from Hispanic backgrounds where Spanish is the dominant language spoken at home. My students are always excited to learn new things. They face challenges in learning the English language; however, they have the willingness to learn and do their absolute best every day.

As an ELL teacher, I get the opportunity to work with my students for multiple years and I always love to see the growth in their academics from year to year.

My students have at least 5-10 books in their book baggies that they read on a daily basis. They change their books once a week. Ziploc bags have been used in the past to hold student books, however, they fall apart so frequently because they are not durable enough to hold all of their books. These book baggies are so sturdy and have been used in other classes in my school. I want to be able for my students to have a book baggie that will last for the entire school year and have them be more organized.
