This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a special education teacher in an integrated co-teaching classroom, and we work with students who have individualized education plans and some who do not. Many of our students do not have access to supplies and resources, and we are always looking to provide them with more.
We are a class filled with different learners who are always looking to help one another.
They are all sweet and treat one another with great respect and kindness. Our job is to provide students with the skills and strategies they need in order to find success, whether they are in special education or general education.
My Project
Each year we have our students use large Ziploc bags to store their reading books in. These bags make their journeys to our students' homes and back to school each day, getting bounced and tossed around in the process. The bags never hold up! Because of this - the books tend to get lost, ripped, or even worse - destroyed.
Durable take home pouches will make an incredible difference in transporting books back and forth to school and keeping them safe from harm!
Also, level 1 sight word readers will help my kindergarteners build literacy skills! The books can be used in their book baggies to practice early reading skills at home and in school.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
