Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
In our low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. To combat the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, clever, and very spontaneous.
They like to move. They love to read, and they love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical."
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
The students in my classroom will be enthusiastic and engaged with some fresh supplies. The students that I teach come from homes where painting, art, even new crayons are not possible or available. Starting the year with new water bottles, games, and supplies will put smiles on their faces and will help them discover the joys of art.
My students sometimes come to school with trauma, stress, and anxiety.
Learning how to calm themselves in order to focus is a big part of their early education. Using tools to help students self regulate is an important part of their learning. They could benefit from my lessons that I have devised to help with social, emotional learning and they could really benefit from some tools to help with calming their minds like the requested stress balls.
