Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are first graders from low income households. I teach at a Title I school where the free and reduced-price lunch rate is 84%. Although many of my kiddos have challenging lives at home, they still come to school excited and ready to learn! I have worked very hard this summer to prepare a classroom that is warm, inviting, and set up to facilitate learning. But we are missing a few items that would help the kiddos reach their academic goals.

My Project

This is my first classroom of my own, and I have not acquired many educational supplies yet. I do not want my sweet kiddos to be at a disadvantage because of this. The white boards in our class are chipped and worn and they make writing difficult. The magnetic 10 frames are effective when teaching math concepts and they keep the kiddos engaged in the lesson. The magnetic blocks are a favorite of kids of all ages and they help reinforce STEM concepts. Our classroom theme is Into the Woods, and the wood pillows will serve as flexible seating for small group work or read to self time. These items will help me deliver the lessons the students need to be successful in first grade!
