This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project aims to benefit students in grades 6, 7, and 8 who struggle with basic reading skills such as decoding and blending sounds and that are having difficulty reading their grade level textbooks and succeeding on state and district assessments. I love that they acknowledge, and are willing, to work so hard to overcome their challenges.

My goal for this project is use multi-sensory experiences to remediate and reinforce knowledge of letters and sounds and how they work together to form words.

Through small group, explicit instruction, the students and I will use the dry erase boards, markers, and erasers to practice our letter sounds along with our voices and fingers. The rotating dry erase board will help to provide an easily visible area for me model working with letters, words, and sounds. When segmenting words and blending sounds, we will use the 'I do, we do, you do model for learning. Each time a student response is written on the dry erase board, I call "Boards up" and they share and compare their responses to mine and the other students for accuracy. We then erase our work and start again on the next response.

The positive incentive rewards, bracelets, pencils, stickers, and pencil clips will be used to assist in motivating students continue to focus in class and recognize progress in reading.
