My Students

I teach at an NAESP-member school that is a low-income/high-poverty school, my students face many challenges both in the classroom and at home. Despite these many challenges, my goal is to keep things simple and provide my students with a loving and meaningful learning environment. They like to move, they love to read, and love lots of positive attention.

Many of my student are raised in single-parent households or by other family members.

Some are even homeless as of right now. Most of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These situations make it difficult to get ahead early in life and may hinder them with "typical" life experiences many of us see on a daily basis. From the minute they walk in my classroom, I focus on their individual potential and growth. I may not have any control over their home lives; however, I am able control the fact that their experience during the school day will be positive and caring. They leave my classroom knowing it is a safe and loving place,

My Project

The various learning games and activities will allow my students to engage in particular skill sets that are required to be mastered. The math and language centers are meant to engage the students. Once any given skill has be taught, it is always good to allow the students to practice that skill. Each of the games/activities in these centers will allow my students to practice what they have learned. I am working with low-performing students, and I need to give them the greatest opportunity to be successful. As previously stated, some of my students are low performing, the magnetic letters are a hands-on way to help my students learn to spell and read. Writing is becoming more and more prevalent in today's classroom: having the ability to teach my students proper writing skills is of utmost importance. The teaching charts for writing are good examples and tools to help my students learn how to write. In addition to the writing charts, the vocabulary journals are also an excellent tool for teaching and learning vocabulary. It has been shown that using new vocabulary in multiple ways helps the students retain new vocabulary. Children learn at different speeds and in different ways. Using these board games, centers, and books that peak their interest will ensure my students will get what they need to thrive in our classroom.

This will change the lives of my students for the better because they will love school and feel what it is like to be successful.

I believe that, if children have success in early education, they will carry that with them throughout the rest of their lives.
