My Project
I am requesting board games for two reasons. The first reason is to teach my students how to cooperate and play together without losing their tempers (all of my kids have special needs are struggle with social/emotional/behavioral disorders). The second reason is so that the students can "rent" the board games and take them home to play with their families.
Playing games is an excellent way to build social skills, and playing with one's family is an excellent way to build that bond at home.
My students struggle with winning well and losing well. By playing board games, students learn how to play cooperatively with each other. They also learn how to win well and how to lose well and how to help their friends.
My students are so special because they are at an extreme disadvantage. Not only are they already dealing with behavioral disorders, but most of them come from low socio-economic backgrounds, and all of them are dealing with some kind of childhood trauma. Playing games is a great way of helping my kids dealing with emotions and learning how to cope with disappointment. Learning that lesson will go a far way to help these kids be more successful out in the real world and in their regular schools when they get to go back.
