My Project

Implementing board games like chess, 7 Wonders, and national park-themed games in my classroom is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, these games foster a growth mindset among my students, encouraging them to develop perseverance, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. By engaging in strategic gameplay, students learn to approach challenges with a positive attitude and a belief in their ability to learn and improve. Moreover, the inclusion of diverse board games caters to the specific needs of my Deaf students. Many of my Deaf students require accommodations to remain calm and focused throughout the class session. By incorporating these games, I can provide an environment that supports their learning requirements and helps them remain engaged during downtime.

The interactive nature of board games also contributes to students' social development, fostering collaboration, communication, and teamwork.

Unfortunately, as a teacher at a Deaf state school with limited funding and a high percentage of students from low-income households, acquiring a variety of games poses a challenge. The school's tight budget cannot support the purchase of these resources to enhance my student's academic and social needs. Nevertheless, I am determined to surprise my students with brand-new games in my class to support their accommodation and learning needs.

By listening to my students' preferences and acknowledging their unique challenges, I can revolutionize the learning dynamics in the classroom while simultaneously enriching their educational experience. Providing diverse games not only supports their academic growth but also helps alleviate stress and anxiety, ensuring a well-rounded and enjoyable learning environment.

It is important to recognize that by investing in these resources, we are investing in our student's future. Their academic success and social development depend on our ability to adapt and provide them with the tools they need to thrive.
