My Students

In my classroom we use our iPads for every subjects. My students have such a hard time typing on them. It takes them an entire day just to type up one page. A standard for Illinois states that by 5th grade our students should be typing two pages in one sitting. This is why keyboards are needed.

I have 23 students in my classroom.

75% of our school is low income. A majority of my students do not have computers in their homes. They have never learned how to type correctly. If my students do type at all it is either on the iPads in class or on a cell phone. My students love to use technology to further their education, but have a hard time typing.

My Project

Everyday the students will be practicing their typing. We will have a station during the day that the students can take time to practice. Once the students have practiced with them for several months, we can being to type research papers in a timely manner. My students get very excited when I tell them they can type their papers. Then after a couple paragraphs, my students get very frustrated because it takes them so long. Having wireless keyboards in my classroom will be teaching these young children how to have the life long skill of typing. In our state standards it is a requirement for our students to be typing two pages in one setting. As of right now it takes a full day for my students to type a single page. Having these keyboards and practicing their typing will help my students not only meet this standard, but also acquire a life skill that is necessary in almost every job.

Learning how to type is something that almost every adult needs to know how to do.

If my students can learn how to type at the age of 5th grade, they will be ahead of the game. Also, once my students are able to learn how to type we will be able to spend more time on researching and editing our papers rather than typing out our paper. Typing is a skill that is necessary in almost every career. Almost every career involves some sort of typing. Knowing how to do that now will be crucial.
