Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are currently in the sixth through twelfth grade. I have the opportunity to teach them all styles of dance, some of them for four plus years. They are engaged in the new styles and to see their confidence grow over the years is truly a sight to see. Some of the girls have never danced a day in their lives and they light up once they get a move they are continuously working on. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I see that my students are faced with a plethora of challenges both inside and outside of the school. So the minute they step into practice, I focus on their individual potential and growth.

My students are intelligent, goal-driven young adults whose experiences should not be hindered based on their socioeconomic status.

Instead, they should be creating meaningful experiences with resources that will allow them to united.

All of my students receive free or reduced-rate lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Often times, their status may not provide them with the materials needed to be successful in the classroom.

My Project

The athletic t-shirts I am requesting for my students will allow them to perform with confidence. In other words, it will give them a sense of sportsmanship and be united as a team. We just need your help in getting there! My students are not used to being provided with many opportunities to look like a team other than the dances they choreograph together. These t-shirts will allow them to not only dance like a team but look like one as well. We are currently in a space where the arts are a way for students to show off their creative side but we do not have that much funding to support the necessities such as team uniforms. This doesn’t stop them from seeking out their passion for dance. Because we are a Title I school many of my dancers are from a low income/high poverty area and can not afford to buy most of the items needed to be on the team.
