My Students

In the library we like to read, write, research, and complete projects!

The library is a place to take what you learned and apply your knowledge!

Our library is a makerspace for students to grow and be active learners through a hands-on curriculum.

Each morning as the students walk through the doors, many are facing struggles outside of school in their homes, as well as academically struggling in school. For some, English is not their first language, which also presents challenges. We are considered a Title I school, and there is a high population of low-income students. We put forth great effort to have the students' meet their educational goals, as well as social-emotional skills to help them cope. Through all the ups and downs the students might face, they have an open mind to learning and love to discover and explore their interests in the library. The library is a place where students and the community can come together to collaborate and learn from one another.

My Project

Nature is all around us and we cannot breathe, eat, or drink without it. To understand this, we can combine our knowledge from reading and research to starting and maintaining our garden. In the germination stage (7-14 days), seedling trays, seed starters, and soil will be used to plant our pumpkin seeds, cherry tomato seeds, and lima beans. The seeds will be placed in individual snack bags. Plant markers will be used to label each seedling. Paper bowls and spoons will be used to hold and scoop soil into the seedling trays. During the germination period, heat pads are used, but since our library has eighteen windows, we can use the enclosed storage boxes and place them by the windows. This way, the plants will get heat from the sunlight. We will use cardboard, construction paper, tarp tape, and flower stickers so each student can create their own garden box. The aluminum trays with lids will be used to catch water and soil that may fall out. Spray bottles will be used to water the plants during the maintenance period. Once the plants are ready to be transported to the seedling nursery pots, they can be watered with the watering cans. Storage bags will be used to place the plants in and catch the water that may leak. The students will observe, record, and analyze data on their plants over the course of the year. The plants will then be placed in their handmade garden boxes. Students can take them home to replant in their garden or planter box in June.

Lets set the stage for students to take initiative to demonstrate responsibility, understanding, and self-confidence to blossom into productive members of our community.
