Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

All my students are at home during this pandemic and they sure have risen to the challenge! Half of the students in my classroom are from low-income households and overall parents have faced difficulties purchasing materials for their kids. The school has been fortunate and very successful in providing the necessary technology such as laptops and/or iPads for the students to engage in remote learning. Myself as well have been conducting lessons from home, putting together learning material virtually through slides and online platforms. I am also aware that although they have access to technology many of them lack the skills and stamina to engage in meaningful online learning, especially engaging in rich reading content.

In the midst of the transition to the digital world, there is still the need for printed books.

As the summer comes to pass and the students are not required as much screen time as they have been these past months I will like to provide them not only with a suggested reading list but with the books themselves!

My Project

Every year I've looked forward to the wonderful adventure of book hunting and presenting this precious gift to my class as an end of year celebration. This year, however, my book endeavor has been altered by the current circumstances of Covid-19.

With your donation, I hope to be able to not only gift each child the traditional one book giveaway but provide them with several rich texts, 4-5 per child, that they can read through the summer and into the start of the new school year.

The wheels of education must go on! I'm confident such a gift can only uplift and encourage my students to continue nurturing their love and the habit of reading, setting them up to bloom when re-entering school. Every book has been carefully selected using data from each child's individual reading level and information gathered from student surveys that gave me a glimpse into their personal literary interests and hearts.
